In the first article of this series, I talked about the 1000 Calf Raise Challenge, including where I received the idea from, as well as when I would start.

I officially started the challenge on January 2nd, and did 1000 calf raises on the 2nd and the 3rd.  Today is Saturday the 4th, and I decided that I will rest on Saturdays.  Keep in mind that I am doing these in conjunction with my regular exercise routine.

I decided also that I will just break it into sets of 25 that I will do throughout the day.  That way, I can spread out the burn.  Since I just received my athletic tape measure today (cool!), I will give updates on any change in calf size to see if there is any difference, too.

Remember, the final test will be for me to see if it is easier for me to dunk a basketball in a regulation size goal.  Hope this works!

Right Calf Size:  15″

Left Calf Size: 14.5″

Do you think that 1000 calf raises a day for a month can raise your vertical 12 inches?  Comment below!

1000 Calf Raises Per Day Challenge…You In??

About three weeks ago, I read an article by popular trainer Obi Obadike in which he answered the question “How Can I Improve My Vertical Jump”.  One thing he recommended was 1,000 calf raises each day.  According to a magazine he read, a young Shaquille O’Neal did 1,000 calf raises before bed each night to increase his vertical jump, and ended up increasing it by supposedly 12 inches!

I have been able to grab the rim since I was a teenager (no bragging intended), but I was never a dunker.  Now, as I approach 30, I figure that I could still do it.  Why not, you know?  1,000 calf raises is a lot at once of course, but starting in January my plan is to do them in the following manner:

100 every hour for 10 hours

=>100/4=25 calf raises every 15 minutes

My goal is to do this for the whole month of January, and then at the end, I will perform a dunking test to see if I have increased my ‘ups.’
